AAE Report on the Periodic Review of the Specialty Now Available

The AAE’s report on the periodic review of the specialty is now available for members to review. The report, submitted to the ADA’s Council on Dental Education and Licensure, is required every 10 years for endodontics to retain its status as a recognized dental specialty. It investigates changes in endodontics over the last decade, including trends in membership, Board certification and education; changes in scope of practice, practice environments and referral patterns; and advancements in research and technology.

IADT Trauma Guide a Handy Resource for Endodontists

An evidence-based guide to managing dental trauma is now available through the International Association of Dental Traumatology as a visual supplement to their own trauma guidelines. The guide was developed by Dr. Jens O. Andreasen of the University Hospital in Copenhagen, Denmark; it provides a high-tech solution to help endodontists from New York to New Guinea quickly and efficiently identify the correct course of action for each patient's trauma.

Managing BPA Exposure In Dental Sealants

A study has revealed that sealants and fillings used on children's teeth may expose them to bisphenol A (BPA), says an article in the medical journal Pediatrics. The researchers say it is not yet clear whether this is hazardous to the long-term health of a child, as exposure does not generally last long. Dental sealants, which contain a variety of BPA derivatives are effective in preventing the majority of dental cavities in children and teenagers....more

What Can A New Zealand Reptile Tell Us About False Teeth?

Using a moving 3D computer model based on the skull and teeth of a New Zealand reptile called tuatara, a BBSRC-funded team from the University of Hull, University College London and the Hull York Medical School has revealed how damage to dental implants and jaw joints may be prevented by sophisticated interplay between our jaws, muscles and brain. This research will appear in a future edition of the Journal of Biomechanics.
