Clinical Inquiries

Who can I speak with regarding coding?

What is the code to use when reporting apexogenesis to an insurance carrier?
D3222 partial pulpotomy for apexogenesis — permanent tooth with incomplete root development 

Removal of a portion of the pulp and application of a medicament with the aim of maintaining the vitality of the remaining portion to encourage continued physiological development and formation of the root. This procedure is not to be construed as the first stage of root canal therapy.

What is the proper dental code for (insert name of procedure)?

I would like to have the Sargenti/Biocalex position statement sent to me.
The AAE does not have a position statement on the use of Biocalex as this product is no longer marketed in the United States, but thePosition Statement on Paraformaldehyde-Containing Filling and Sealing Materials is available through the website.

Continuing Education

What are my state requirements for continuing education credits?
Access your state dental board's website to review the necessary CE requirements.

What endodontic continuing education courses are available?
The AAE currently holds two meetings a year—Annual Session (April/May) and Fall Conference (October/November). There are also endodontic courses hosted by affiliate organizations and other groups.

The AAE Live Learning Center provides online courses with the opportunity to earn CE credit.

How can I obtain a list of advanced endodontic programs and their directors?
All programs, including contact information, are posted within the Become an Endodontist and Residents and New Practitioners sections of the website.

Does the AAE have any resources for those interested in pursing a career in education?

Journal of Endodontics

Where is my Journal?
The Journal of Endodontics typically mails the last week of each month. If you have not received your issue, contact the AAE Membership Department at membership@aae.org.

How can I place an advertisement in the Journal of Endodontics? Is there a way for me to place one online?
Classified ads for positions available, practice for sale, space available, etc., can be submitted to the AAE through the Associate Registry Form. Display ads for the JOE should be sent directly to the publisher, Elsevier.

Classified ads are also posted online through the AAE Career Center.

How can I submit a Letter to the Editor?
Correspondence regarding editorial matters should be sent directly to Dr. Kenneth M. Hargreaves at jendodontics@uthscsa.edu, or Dept. of Endodontics UTHSCSA, 7703 Floyd Curl Drive, San Antonio, TX 78229-3900.

Meetings

When does registration open?
Registration for the Annual Session typically opens in December and by July for the Fall Conference. The exact dates for each year will be posted on the website, announced to the membership via e-mail and in print publications.

When can I make my hotel room reservation?
The hotel room block opens at the same time as registration. Contact information for each year's location will be provided at that time.

How much is registration?
Registration rates vary based on the meeting, and membership type and status. You can view the fees for the current Annual Session and Fall Conference online as they are made available.

Are there discounts for educators/military members?
Yes. Full-time educators receive reimbursement for one-half the Annual Session registration fee and a travel stipend from the AAE Foundation through the Annual Session Educator Grant.

Federal Dental Health Service members who do not receive funding from their services for the AAE Annual Session are entitled to receive a 50 percent reduction in the Professional Member registration fee.

How can I become a speaker at one of your meetings?
The Call for Presentations is issued each January with submissions due by May. Contact the Meeting Services Department at meetings@aae.org for more information.

How can I exhibit at your meeting?
The Exhibit Prospectus for the Annual Session is mailed and posted online in September. Sponsorship and exhibits for the Fall Conference is limited to AAE Foundation donors at the $25,000 level or greater.

When does early registration end?
Early registration typically ends a month prior to the meeting, but registration at the standard rate is still accepted online until a week-and-a-half prior to the event. Exact dates are posted on the website and in each meeting's materials.

Can I register on site?
On-site registration is accepted for the Annual Session but not for the Fall Conference. Dates and times are posted in the meeting materials and online.

Can you send me a program?
The meeting programs are available online as a downloadable PDF files or you can request a paper copy from the Meeting Services Department at meetings@aae.org.

How can I obtain my continuing education credits for an AAE meeting?
Contact the Education Department at education@aae.org.

Membership

How can I become a member of the AAE?
The AAE has several membership categories to accommodate the variety of professionals in the dental field, including general practitioners. Find out which AAE membership best fits you.

When can I join the AAE?
The membership dues cycle starts on July 1 and goes to June 30 of the following year. You can join at any time but applications received after May 1 will be processed for the following membership year.

Can I apply for membership online?
No. Currently, there are no electronic applications available. Go to the Applications and Fees page to download a copy of the form. 

Does an AAE membership include a subscription to the Journal of Endodontics?
Active, Educator, Associate, International, Resident and Predoctoral Student membership fees all include a subscription to the JOE.

Practice Management

Do you have an informed consent form?
The AAE has general guidelines for developing an informed consent form. Laws vary from state to state, so please contact your attorney to review a document of this type before using it.

What are other endodontists charging for particular procedures?
The AAE cannot provide an answer to this question as it violates the Sherman Anti-Trust Act for dentists to discuss their fees. The American Dental Association may have a general survey on this topic through its Survey Center.

Could you provide me with salary and demographic information for endodontists?
The AAE does not currently track this information. The ADA Survey Center may have some information in one of their documents.

Miscellaneous

Can I speak to someone regarding ethics and legal issues?
Yes. You may contact the AAE Assistant Executive Director for Professional Affairs Helen Jameson, J.D., at hjameson@aae.org.

Can I speak to anyone regarding the boards?
The American Board of Endodontics is the only certifying board for the specialty of endodontics and is one of the nine specialty boards recognized by the American Dental Association. You can visit the ABE website for more information, or contact Executive Secretary Margie Hannen at abe@aae.org.

What is the business mileage reimbursement for this year per the IRS regulations?
The standard mileage reimbursement for 2011 (July-December)is 55.5 cents per mile. For the first half of the year, it was 51 cents per mile.

Since the AAE is a nonprofit, the Association doesn’t need to pay taxes, correct?
The Association is classified as a 501c(6) organization and is exempt from federal income tax under these provisions, but must annually file an information return, known as a Form 990. The AAE must also claim any unrelated business income, such as funds received for advertisements in the Journal of Endodontics.
