Marc Levitan HeadshotMarc E. Levitan, D.D.S., received the Edward M. Osetek Educator Award from the American Association of Endodontists during the Association’s recent Annual Session in San Antonio, Texas. The award is presented to a full-time educator with less than 10 years of teaching experience.

Dr. Levitan began his full-time academic career after spending 25 years in private practice. Currently, Dr. Levitan is associate professor and director of the postgraduate and undergraduate endodontic programs at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine in Charleston. When he took the leap into academia in 2000, he was an associate professor and director of the undergraduate endodontics program at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. He is involved in student mentorship and sits on many committees within the university.

“He has personally been the reason why numerous dental students decide to specialize in endodontics - due to his charisma, his love of teaching, his passion for helping patients and the constant support he offers to them,” said John S. Olmsted, D.D.S., M.S., chair of the AAE Honors and Awards Committee.

A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, Dr. Levitan received his D.D.S. from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in 1973 and his Certificate in Endodontics from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 1975.
