2009 Call for Presentations

The Annual Session Planning Committee invites all members to submit a presentation to be considered for the 2009 Annual Session. Presenting at an Annual Session provides you with the opportunity to share your knowledge with your peers and increase your visibility in the AAE. The following will provide you with the necessary information to properly submit a presentation.

Eligibility

All members of the AAE are eligible to present a Submitted Presentation.

Presentation Overview

The American Association of Endodontists strives to provide its members with the highest quality in continuing dental education. The course material must be relevant and presented in a professional manner within the allotted time. All AAE sessions will be educational in content and free from commercial or promotional bias. Submitted Presentations are primarily clinical or scientific in nature. However, current topics of general interest, such as practice management or quality of life issues, are welcome.

Presentation Length and Format

Submitted Presentations are limited to 45 minutes unless additional time is deemed necessary by the Annual Session Planning Committee. Suggested formats include lecture, panel discussion or issue debate.

As it is the aim of the AAE to foster enhanced presentations, all speakers are required to utilize computer projection equipment when presentations include projected images. Speakers are required to supply their own laptop.

Handout Materials

Attendee evaluations indicate a high demand for speaker handouts; therefore, all presenters are required to submit materials to the AAE in advance of the annual session. Handouts will be duplicated for on-site distribution and available via the AAE web-site approximately one week prior to the meeting. Details regarding handout specifications (i.e., method of delivery, duplication, etc.) will be provided to all confirmed presenters.

Submission Guidelines

All Submitted Presentations must include the followinginformation. Submissions in any other format will not be considered.

  • Submitter’s name/credentials
  • Address, phone/fax/e-mail
  • Co-presenter’s (if applicable) name/credentials, address, phone/fax/e-mail
  • Presentation title
  • Presentation synopsis
  • Learning objectives

The provided title, session synopsis and learning objectives will be published in the Annual Session Program. Synopses may not exceed 75 words. Each learning objective (please provide three) should complete the sentence, “At conclusion, participants should be able to . . .”

As an ADA CERP recognized provider, the AAE must follow guidelines that include accurate advertising of course educational objectives and main points. According to the ADA CERP Standards and Procedures manual, “specific education objectives should describe the expected outcome(s) of the learning experience. They may include, but are not limited to, the following categories: 1) changes in the attitude and approach of the learner to the solution of dental problems; 2) corrections of outdated knowledge; 3) provision of new knowledge in specific areas; 4) introduction to and/or mastery of specific skills and techniques; and 5) alteration in the habits of the learner. Accurate educational objectives succinctly describe the education that will result from attending the course.”

Practice management courses must meet certain criteria for AAE members living in California to receive continuing education credit from the California Board of Dental Examiners. Courses that address: 1) evaluation, improvement and/or methods of correction for recall and scheduling systems; 2) comprehensive treatment planning; 3) office instrument sterilization systems; 4) implementation and/or mechanism of alternative delivery systems; and 5) patient record keeping are acceptable. Other topics may or may not be acceptable.

  • Suggested attendance capacity
  • Suggested workshop length
