CHICAGO — The American Association of Endodontists appointed four new members to its Board of Directors during the 2007 Annual Session, April 25 - 28, in Philadelphia, Pa. George T. Goodis, D.D.S., M.S., of Grosse Pointe, Mich.; Gary R. Hartwell, D.D.S., M.S., of Newark, N.J.; Anthony P. Joyce, D.D.S., of Evans, Ga.; and Mary T. Pettiette, D.D.S., of Pinehurst N.C. were elected as the new directors representing their districts.
Dr. Gary Hartwell represents AAE District II, comprised of Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island. An AAE member since 1972, he currently serves on the Association’s Evidence Based Endodontics Committee. Dr. Hartwell is a full professor, chairman and endodontic program director for the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, N.J. Dr. Hartwell is an accomplished endodontic educator previously serving in leadership capacities at Virginia Commonwealth University and the U.S. Army Dental Corps. He received his D.D.S. from West Virginia University in 1966, his certificate in endodontics from the U.S. Army Dental Corps in 1973 and his M.S. in oral biology from the George Washington University in 1974.
Dr. Mary T. Pettiette represents AAE District III, comprised of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. She has been a member since 1984, and previously served on the AAE Educational Affairs Committee. In addition to maintaining a private practice in Pinehurst, N.C., Dr. Pettiette has served as a clinical endodontic professor at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill since 1990 and was director of its endodontic clinics from 1990-2004.. Additionally, she is a past president of the Tarheel Endodontic Society (2002) and an active participant with the North Carolina Dental Society. Dr. Pettiette also is an avid researcher, with more than 15 published studies and abstracts, as well as the recipient of numerous research grants. She received her D.D.S. in 1984 and her certificate in endodontics in 1986 from the Louisiana State University Dental School. She was certified by the American Board of Endodontics in 1989.
Dr. George T. Goodis represents AAE District IV, which is comprised of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin. A member since 1975, he was the inaugural recipient of the AAE’s Lifetime Spirit of Service Award in 2007. Dr. Goodis also has been active within the AAE, currently serving as the chair of the Continuing Education Committee. Additionally, Dr. Goodis has held numerous positions within the American Dental Association and Michigan Dental Association. He maintains a private practice in Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., and is an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Endodontics at University of Detroit Mercy. Dr. Goodis received his D.D.S. from the University of Michigan in 1964 and his M.S. from Madonna University in 1998. He was certified by the American Board of Endodontics in 1989.
Dr. Anthony P. Joyce represents AAE District V, comprised of Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, the Public Health Service, Texas, the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, Veterans Administration and the Virgin Islands. He has been a member of the AAE since 1995, and has served on the Governmental Affairs and the Federal Dental Services Committees, the latter of which he served as chair. Dr. Joyce is the program director of the U.S. Army Endodontic Residency Program at Fort Gordon, Ga. Additionally, he is an assistant clinical professor in the endodontic department of the Medical College of Georgia and has guest lectured across the country and in Canada. Dr. Joyce received his D.D.S. from Creighton University in 1983 and his certificate in endodontics from the U.S. Army endodontic residency program at Fort Gordon in 1997. He became certified by the American Board of Endodontics in 2001.
