International Access to Care

Foundation for Endodontics & Henry Schein Cares Foundation Outreach Program

Outreach is one of the Foundation’s newest focus areas and was recently added to our expanded mission in 2016. The access to care initiative is fulfilled through our International outreach program. The international outreach program was developed and implemented through discussion with and feedback from the Foundation’s Resident Expert Advisory Council (REACH). The first international outreach pilot program was launched in mid-2016 in Partnership with Christian Dental Society (CDS) at Helping Hands Clinic in Treasure Beach, Jamaica. After much success with the pilot trip, the Foundation board voted to introduce international outreach as a permanent program.

Thanks to corporate and individual donors, and with major support from Henry Schein Cares Foundation, the international outreach program has seen monumental growth over the short period of time since its launch. Our volunteers are making an impact on an international level and residents are taking the opportunity to give desperately needed care to underprivileged patients, saving teeth and improving the quality of life for many.

Get Involved!

The AAE works hard to advocate for the specialty, and through the Access to Care Initiative, the Foundation is advocating and increasing awareness even overseas. There are multiple ways to participate as a volunteer for the international outreach program.

Mentors

The endodontic mentor for each outreach trip is selected through the application process linked below. All costs associated with the program (travel, insurance, etc.) are covered by the Foundation for Endodontics. All lodging, food & beverage and ground transportation in Jamaica is arranged by the Christian Dental Society (CDS) and covered through their registration fee which is paid for by the Foundation.

If you are interested in serving as a mentor on our outreach trips, please review the guidelines and application and apply. Please email all application materials to foundation@aae.org.

Resident Volunteers

First opportunity to participate as a resident volunteer is given to the Foundation’s Resident Expert Advisory Council (REACH) members and nominees.

Interested in joining as a resident volunteer for a trip in the future? Review the eligibility guidelines and application for the Resident Expert Advisory Council (REACH) and plan to apply. The application deadline is January 15 of each year.

Please use this resource as your guide through the registration process, preparations for your trip, and what to expect on the trip itself. This is also a great resource to share with your colleagues and mentors who may be interested in the Foundation’s international outreach program.
