Typical questions asked by a patient presenting for root canal treatment include: Will it hurt? How much will it cost? How long will it take? How long will it last? Endodontic outcomes research is crucial for making informed treatment decisions that preserve teeth and enhance lives. Clinicians rely on exceptionally done research to choose dental materials and procedures for their patients that are safe and effective. When we cannot examine data from independent studies to obtain a more reliable conclusion due to variability in study design, populations, and methodologies, healthcare practices and treatments do not advance, and providers lack an understanding of the disease process.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The American Association of Endodontists (AAE) recognizes the need for investigators to have quality guidelines for research study design, resulting in publications that clinicians can use to improve their evidence-based practice and best serve patients.
