Robert A. Handysides, D.D.S., is the sixth dean of the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. Dr. Handysides previously served as associate dean for academic affairs.
According to a news story on the school’s website, in response to his selection, Dr. Handysides said he was deeply honored and humbled. “Although LLUSD has a proud tradition of excellence and is recognized as having one of the profession’s premier clinical programs, we have no interest in resting on our laurels. I look forward to collaborating with our school’s highly dedicated faculty, staff, alumni and students as we strive to improve on our laudable past.”
After graduating from LLUSD in 1993, Dr. Handysides established and maintained a solo practice for five years in Kingston, Ontario, his Canadian home. After completion of his specialty program, Dr. Handysides served the Department of Endodontics in a variety of roles: course director, lecturer, clinical educator and researcher. In 2003, he became director of the LLU Faculty Endodontics practice, a position he held until 2013.
In 2009, when Dr. Leif Bakland, distinguished emeritus professor, retired, Dr. Handysides replaced his mentor and friend as chair of the Department of Endodontics.
A Board-certified endodontist, Dr. Handysides has authored or coauthored several peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters in endodontics and dental education. He has also presented many continuing education seminars nationally and internationally.
