CHICAGO — AAE member Maria Maranga, D.D.S., from Aquebogue, New York, was elected second vice president of the American Dental Association (ADA) at the ADA FDC Virtual Connect Conference 2020, a joint meeting of the ADA and Florida Dental Association. Dr. Maranga will play a crucial role in supporting the ADA’s vision to achieve optimal health for all.

Dr. Maranga serves as ADPAC representative for the AAE’s Practice Affairs Committee and has held various leadership positions within the ADA. She was a delegate in the ADA House of Delegates from 2019 to 2020 and was chair of the ADA Council on Membership from 2016 to 2017. She also is a graduate of the ADA Institute for Diversity.

In addition to her ADA membership, Dr. Maranga retains membership with many other professional associations, including New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) – Suffolk County Dental Society, New York State Association of Endodontics, American Association of Women Dentists, among others. She was a delegate to NYSDA from 2017 to 2020 and Suffolk County Dental Society president in 2011.

“This has been truly an amazing journey. I have spoken to so many of you across our ADA family, and this is only the beginning. Thank you for your support,” Dr. Maranga said after her election, as reported in the ADA News. “I am here to listen to this House of Delegates and strongly represent you. Please reach out with any concerns. I will remain your voice. I’m ready to meet the challenge.”

Dr. Maranga has authored multiple publications, including the AAE Communique Publication on Dental Outreach in Underserved Communities in 2018 and the Sedation in Endodontists chapter within the textbook Sedation in Dentistry in 2018. Additionally, Dr. Maranga is an experienced educator, holding faculty positions at New York University (NYU) College of Dentistry, NYU Langone Medical Center, Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Northport, New York, and others over the years.

“Dr. Maranga is a powerful voice for endodontists, and this prominent position with the ADA will further amplify our voice,” said AAE President Dr. Alan H. Gluskin. “What stood out in her campaign was her representation of the specialist, educator, business owner, etc., and her skill and affability in advocacy. We look forward to what Dr. Maranga will accomplish in this prestigious new position.”
