American Association of Endodontists Announces 2018-2019 Board

CHICAGO—The American Association of Endodontics ushers in 2018-2019 with new officers and Board of Director members, appointed at the Association’s recent annual meeting in Denver.

Patrick E. Taylor, D.D.S., M.S., President. Dr. Taylor’s dental career spans 21 years in the military, 18 years of private practice in Bellevue, Wash., and his current role as affiliate faculty at the University of Washington School of Dentistry, where he teaches in the graduate clinic. He received his D.D.S. from the University of California at San Francisco and his Certificate in Endodontics from the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Taylor is a Diplomate and past president of the American Board of Endodontics. As president, Dr. Taylor also sits on the Foundation for Endodontics Board of Trustees.

Keith V. Krell, D.D.S., M.S., M.A., President-Elect. Dr. Krell has maintained a private practice in West Des Moines, Iowa, for nearly 30 years. He currently serves as an adjunct clinical professor of endodontics at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, and served there as the graduate program director until 1989. He retired from the U.S. Army National Guard as a lieutenant colonel in 1993 after 22 years of service. Dr. Krell received his D.D.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Iowa. A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, Dr. Krell has held several executive positions, including president of both the American Board of Endodontics and the Foundation for Endodontics. As president-elect, Dr. Krell also sits on the Foundation for Endodontics Board of Trustees.

Alan H. Gluskin, D.D.S, Vice President. Dr. Gluskin is professor and co-chair of the Department of Endodontics, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, University of the Pacific in San Francisco. He graduated from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry and received his Certificate in Endodontics from Temple University in Philadelphia. Dr. Gluskin serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Endodontics, the International Journal of Endodontics and the Journal of the California Dental Association. He is co-editor of the textbook Decision Making in Dental Treatment Planning and contributed to the sixth edition of Ingle's Endodontics. He is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists. As vice president, Dr. Gluskin also sits on the Foundation for Endodontics Board of Trustees.

 Stefan I. Zweig, D.D.S., Secretary. Dr. Zweig is a private practicing endodontist in San Marino, Calif. He received his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of California-Los Angeles in 1982, his D.D.S. from the University of Southern California in 1986, and his Certificate in Endodontics from USC in 1990. He currently serves as an assistant professor in the department of endodontics at the USC Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry. A member of the AAE Board of Directors from 2012-2015. Dr. Zweig previously served as treasurer. He also is a past president of the Southern California Academy of Endodontists and the California State Association of Endodontists.

Gerald C. Dietz, Jr., D.D.S., Treasurer. Dr. Dietz has been a private practicing endodontist in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., for more than 30 years. He received his dental degree from the University of Michigan in 1984 and earned his Certificate in Endodontics at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry in 1986. Dr. Dietz taught preclinical endodontics at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry for several years. Dr. Dietz served on the Board of Directors from 2014-2016, is a past president of the Michigan Association of Endodontists and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists.

Garry L. Myers, D.D.S., Immediate Past President. Dr. Myers is the graduate program director of endodontics at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. He joined the VCU faculty after 16 years in private practice in Tumwater, Wash. Dr. Myers received his D.D.S. degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1985. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force, where he completed a residency program in endodontics at Wilford Hall Medical Center in 1991. A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, Dr. Myers also served as president of the Washington State Association of Endodontists. As immediate past president, Dr. Myers also sits on the Foundation for Endodontics Board of Trustees.

Robert A. Cheron, D.M.D., M.S., F.A.C.D., District I Director, representing Delaware, Washington, D.C., Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Virginia. Dr. Cheron is a private practicing endodontist in Arlington, Va. He received his D.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 2003. He then completed a General Practice Residency at the Washington, D.C., VA Medical Center before moving to California to earn his Certificate in Endodontics at the University of California, San Francisco. He has served on several AAE committees, including Clinical Practice, Distance Learning and many special committees.

Bradley M. Harris, D.D.S., District III Director, representing Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Dr. Harris has been a private practicing endodontist in Memphis, Tenn., for more than 30 years. He received his D.D.S. from the University of Tennessee in Memphis in 1974, and after six years of practicing general dentistry, Dr. Harris pursued endodontic specialty training at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. After earning his Certificate in Endodontics in 1982, he held various teaching positions at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry, where he continues to serve as a clinical assistant professor. Dr. Harris is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists.

Steven J. Katz, D.D.S., M.S., District IV Director, representing Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Dr. Katz has maintained a private practice limited to endodontics in Beachwood, Ohio, for nearly 30 years. He graduated from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy in 1980, where he received his dental degree in 1986 and his Certificate in Endodontics in 1988. A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, Dr. Katz is an adjunct clinical professor at the University of Southern California School of Dental Medicine and a guest lecturer at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine. He also is past president of the Greater Cleveland Dental Society.

Nishan M. Odabashian, D.M.D., M.S., District VII Director, representing California. Dr. Odabashian is a private practicing endodontist in Glendale, Calif. He received his dental degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1992 and earned his Certificate in Endodontics from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in 2001. Dr. Odabashian is an assistant professor of endodontics at Loma Linda and served as president of several organizations including the Glendale Academy of Dentists, California State Association of Endodontists, Armenian American Endodontic Association and the Armenian Dental Society of California.

The following members are continuing their term on the Board of Directors:

Ali Behnia, D.M.D., M.S., District I Director, representing Delaware, Washington, D.C., Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Virginia. Dr. Behnia has worked in private practice in Rockville, Md. since 2002. He earned his D.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and his Certificate in Endodontics from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, when he is a part-time clinical assistant professor. Among his many professional and committee appointments, Dr. Behina currently serves as vice president of the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners and immediate past president of the Alumni Association Board of Directors for the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.

Bruce Y. Cha, D.M.D., District II Director, representing Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island. Dr. Cha is a private practicing endodontist in New Haven, Conn., where he also serves as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Connecticut and Yale University, and as endodontic section chief at Yale-New Haven Hospital. A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, Dr. Cha earned his D.M.D. and Certificate in Endodontics from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. He is a past president of the Connecticut Association of Endodontists and the New Haven Dental Association.

Richard L. Rubin, D.D.S., M.S., District II Director, representing Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island. Dr. Rubin maintains a private practice in Fairport, N.Y., serves as clinical assistant professor at the University at Buffalo, and as section head of endodontics at Rochester General Hospital. He is past president of the Seventh District Dental Society Board of Directors, the New York State Association of Endodontists and the Rochester Dental Study Club. Dr. Rubin received his D.D.S. and Certificate in Endodontics from the University at Buffalo.

William H. Rousseau, D.M.D., District III Director, representing Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Dr. Rousseau is a private-practicing endodontist in Atlanta, where he began his professional career in 2000. He received his D.M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia and his Certificate in Endodontics from the University of Louisville in Kentucky. A member of the U.S. Navy Dental Corps, Dr. Rousseau spent three years of active duty stationed at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina. A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, Dr. Rousseau is past president of the Georgia Association of Endodontists and the Southern Endodontic Study Group.

Gerald J. Halk, D.D.S., M.S., J.D., LL.M., District IV Director, representing Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Dr. Halk is a private practicing endodontist in Sterling Heights, Mich., and a clinical adjunct professor at the University of Detroit in the Department of Endodontics. He received his dental degree and Certificate in Endodontics from the University of Michigan. and also studied law, earning a J.D. from the University of Detroit-Mercy and an LL.M. from Western Michigan University. A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, Dr. Halk is past president of the Michigan Association of Endodontists and the Macomb Dental Society.

Ron C. Hill, D.D.S., M.S.D., District V Director, representing Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Public Health, Puerto Rico, Texas, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and the Veterans Administration. Dr. Hill received his dental degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston Dental Branch in 1997. He completed a GPR at the University of Texas and Hermann Hospital. After nine years in general practice, Dr. Hill earned his Certificate in Endodontics from the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston Dental Branch in 2010, where he continues to serve as a clinical assistant professor while maintaining a private practice in Houston. Dr. Hill is past president of the Houston Academy of Endodontics.

John M. Yaccino, D.D.S., District V Director, representing Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Public Health, Puerto Rico, Texas, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and the Veterans Administration. Dr. Yaccino is Chief of Endodontics for Scott Air Force Base AEGD Residency Program. He earned his D.D.S. from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1989 and his Certificate in Endodontics from Wilford Hall Medical Center in 1999. A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, Dr. Yaccino also served as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center Department of Endodontics, and an associate professor for the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences.

Natasha M. Flake, D.D.S., Ph.D., District VI Director, representing Alaska, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Dr. Flake earned her D.D.S. and Ph.D. in neuroscience at the University of Maryland. She completed her endodontic training at the University of Washington School of Dentistry in 2007 and joined the school’s faculty as an assistant professor the same year. A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, Dr. Flake currently serves as acting chair and associate professor of endodontics at the University of Washington.

Joseph A. Petrino, D.D.S., M.S., District VI Director, representing Alaska, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Dr. Petrino is in private practice in Missoula, Mont. He obtained his D.D.S. and his Certificate in Endodontics from the University of Minnesota and completed a GPR at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics in 2012.

Daniel J. Pierre, D.D.S., M.S., District VII Director, representing California. Dr. Pierre has been in private practice in Monterey, Calif., since 2008. He received his D.D.S. from Marquette School of Dentistry and his M.S. from the University of California in San Francisco. Dr. Pierre is a past president of the Monterey Bay Dental Society and is active in the California State Association of Endodontists and the California Dental Association.
