California Northstate University College of Dental Medicine Names its Dean
The president and CEO of California Northstate University announced the appointment of Dr. Kevin M. Keating as the Dean of College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Keating has made significant contribution to the establishment of the CNU College of Dental Medicine having served since September of 2017 as the Chair of the Task Force that led to formation of the CNU College of Dental Medicine. He later became the assistant dean of clinical affairs in February 2019.
Dr. Keating earned his dental degree from Loyola University’s College of Dental Surgery. Following graduation, Dr. Keating received dual appointments to teach in the department of Endodontics and the department of Oral Diagnosis and Treatment Planning at Loyola University. He later earned his Master of Science degree from Marquette University as a result of his studies on bone healing following surgical intervention while also obtaining his certificate of Completion of Residency Training in Endodontics. Following the completion of his residency, Dr. Keating practiced endodontics in the Sacramento region and served as the managing partner of a multispecialty group practice for 38 years. He continued to be involved in education, teaching both pre-doctorate students and endodontic residents at UC San Francisco School of Dentistry for 38 years. He has achieved the rank of Clinical Professor and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. Dr. Keating has been inducted into many honorary societies including the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. In addition to his clinical and academic interests, Dr. Keating has been active in leadership as an officer or board member of oral health care organizations and foundations at the local, state and national level. In these leadership roles, his focus has been to improve oral health care access and delivery to all segments of the population and improving the quality of health care education. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors and as an officer of The California Dental Association, he also served as an officer and board member of The Dentists Insurance Company, and The Dentists Supply Company. The Dentists Insurance Company provides professional liability, property, and employment practices liability insurance policies in 26 states. The Dentist Supply Company is a start-up on-line supply company offering dental supplies to dentists in 48 states. He brings a wealth of leadership, clinical, and educational experience to his role as Dean of the CNU College of Dental Medicine.
California Northstate University is adding the College of Dental Medicine to its Academic Health Center which currently has Colleges of Pharmacy, Medicine, Psychology in its Elk Grove campus and undergraduate and graduate degrees in Health Sciences in its Rancho Cordova campus.
