Reaching Out During Root Canal Awareness Week

The 10th celebration of Root Canal Awareness Week featured new videos, a new kickoff event and endodontists making news in their communities. AAE members Drs. Kirk Coury of Amarillo Endodontics and Derek Peek of Eastern Iowa Endodontics were interviewed by local television stations in Texas and Iowa, respectively, about endodontists, root canal treatment and the importance of saving teeth. Local news is an effective and powerful way to reach potential patients and raise the profile of endodontists as the specialists in saving teeth.

To help you spread the word that root canals aren’t what they used to be, the AAE released two short videos during Root Canal Awareness Week to highlight that endodontic treatment, like everything else, has improved over time. Since their release, the videos have had more than 9,000 views and reached an audience of nearly 25,000. Help us continue to spread the word about modern root canal treatment by watching and sharing the videos, available on theAAE’s YouTube channel or downloadable from theAAE website.

Additional AAE social media activity during Root Canal Awareness Week resulted in 1,875 interactions with a potential reach of more than 180,000.

A special thanks to this year’s Root Canal Awareness Week sponsors, EndoVision and Zeiss. Endovision held a kickoff event at the Henry Schein offices in American Fork, Utah, where local endodontist Dr. Brent Sonnenberg provided pro bono root canal treatment in the company’s Share a Smile dental clinic. Henry Schein also produced avideo in support of Root Canal Awareness Week, the AAE and the local Share a Smile charity.

Root Canal Awareness Week continues to grow each year thanks to the activities of AAE members. Local, grassroots efforts to promote endodontics and address misconceptions about root canal treatment are among the most effective ways for the specialty to advocate to patients. If you have stories or photos of your Root Canal Awareness Week celebrations to share, please send them topr@aae.org and we may feature you in future articles. And don’t forget to mark your calendars for next year’s Root Canal Awareness Week, May 7-13. Beginning in 2017, the event always will be held during the second week of May.
