Some Manufacturers Experiencing Amoxicillin Shortages

Becker’s Dental Review said, “The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists reported that at least three manufacturers of amoxicillin are experiencing supply shortages.” The “shortages include 14 from Hikma Pharmaceuticals, 18 from Sandoz and 11 from Teva Pharmaceutical Industries in the form of tablets, powder and capsules.” DentistryIQ reported that “in dentistry, the shortages primarily affect the availability of amoxicillin oral suspension products used for pediatric patients.” In addition to amoxicillin, Axios reported that “antivirals and pediatric cold and flu medications are hard to find across the country as families deal with back-to-back illnesses spurring secondary effects like childhood ear infections and pneumonia.” The Wall Street Journal reported that caregivers and parents are also facing difficulties while trying to find fever reducers. Stating that the “national shortage of amoxicillin suspensions” is “anticipated to last several months,” the American Academy of Pediatrics listed “alternative therapies during the shortage.”
