Statement From the AAE and Foundation for Endodontics

Dear members,

The American Association of Endodontists and the Foundation for Endodontics value equality and inclusion, and we know that diversity keeps our specialty strong. We do not tolerate injustice or discrimination of any kind, and we applaud those who exercise their invaluable right to protest peacefully.

As purveyors of dental health, which in turn impacts overall health, we recognize we must play an active role in eradicating racism, which has a detrimental impact on health and exacerbates health inequities. We have long stood for increasing access to care, but we know that we have yet to get to the heart of the matter. Recent events have underscored how racism is not simply a political talking point or a thing of the past; and so in the coming days and weeks, we vow to reflect on what we, as an Association, can do to help the healing of our nation in the wake of immense injustice.

As we grieve, our collective anger should transform into a strong resolve to help enact meaningful change. The AAE reinforces its firm commitment to embracing diversity and inclusiveness as part of our core value of collegiality. At the core of its values, the Foundation is dedicated to diverse collaboration. We are committed to providing an environment that is welcoming and supports the diversity of our members, donors, patients and the professional community. We have always been committed to this, but we recognize that we can be better. And we will.

In the face of much indecency, let us demonstrate decency and compassion for one another, and let’s stay hopeful for healing and unity in our communities everywhere.

Sincerely,

Alan H. Gluskin, D.D.S.
President, American Association of Endodontists
