American Board of Endodontics Announces New Officers, Directors

CHICAGO—The American Board of Endodontics named new officers and members to its Board of Directors during the American Association of Endodontists recent annual meeting in Denver. They are:

Scott B. McClanahan, D.D.S., M.S., President. Dr. McClanahan is a professor in the department of restorative sciences at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, where he’s worked since 2005. He received his D.D.S. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1981, after which he entered the U.S. Navy as a dental officer. In 1986, he was selected by the Navy for civilian specialty training and completed his Certificate in Endodontics at Northwestern University Dental School in 1989. After three tours of duty as a clinical endodontist, Dr. McClanahan joined the faculty of the endodontics department at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in 1998 and in 2001, assumed the responsibilities of chairman and director of the Advanced Specialty Education Program in Endodontics. He retired from active duty in September 2005. Dr. McClanahan is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics.

Asgeir Sigurdsson, D.D.S., M.S., Vice President. Dr. Sigurdsson is chairman of the department of endodontics at the New York University College of Dentistry. In 1988, he earned his Cand. Odont. degree from the University of Iceland Faculty of Dentistry. After one year of private practice in Akureyri, Iceland, he moved to Chapel Hill, N.C., where he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry and earned his Certificate in Endodontics in 1992. Dr. Sigurdsson has lectured extensively around the world on dental trauma, endodontics, pain diagnosis and forensic dentistry. A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, Dr. Sigurdsson is a past president of the International Association for Dental Traumatology and the 1998 recipient of the American Association of Endodontists’ Edward M. Osetek Educator Award.

Brian E. Bergeron, D.M.D., Treasurer. Dr. Bergeron is the endodontic program director at the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University. He earned his D.M.D. from the University of Florida before completing a General Practice Residency at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Neb., and an endodontic residency at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Tex. Dr. Bergeron served 23 years in the USAF Dental Corps, including his final assignment as endodontics residency director at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. He serves nationally on the ADA Dental Quality Alliance, the Scientific Advisory Board for the Journal of Endodontics and as a Review Committee member for the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Bradford R. Johnson, D.D.S., Director. Dr. Johnson is associate professor, department head and director of postdoctoral endodontics at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry. He received his D.D.S. from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1982, completed a GPR at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago in 1983, and earned his Certificate in Endodontics from UIC in 1991. Dr. Johnson also received a Master of Health Professions Education degree from the UIC College of Medicine in 2005. A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, Dr. Johnson is a past member of the AAE Board of Directors and a past president of the Illinois Association of Endodontists.

Neville J. McDonald, B.D.S., M.S., Director. Dr. McDonald is clinical professor and director of endodontics at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He graduated from the University of Otago in New Zealand and earned his Certificate in Endodontics and an M.S. in oral biology from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. Dr. McDonald’s research interests include electronic apex locators, instrumentation systems, endodontic surgery and regeneration. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, a member of the Royal Australasian College of Dentists and a past president of the Michigan Association of Endodontists.
