Michael M. Hoen, D.D.S.

Biography

Dr. Hoen is the director of the graduate endodontic program at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. He also maintains a private practice with the Endodontic Associates PC office in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, D.D.S. degree from the University of Detroit, and Certificate in Endodontics from Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. After 30 years of service with the U.S. Army, he retired as a colonel in 1996. To date, he has been the only airborne ranger endodontist in the American Armed Forces.

Dr. Hoen has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics since 1990, and is currently on the ABE Board of Directors. He is a past chair of the AAE Evidence-Based Endodontics Committee. His clinical areas of interest include the application of “evidence” to the decision-making process and endodontic retreatment analysis. He is active in organized dentistry, and has authored numerous scientific articles and lectured worldwide.

    Topic: Differential Diagnosis
    Learning Objectives:

    This session will describe the following:

    • Definition of evidence-based dentistry
    • How to access online endodontic evidence
    • How to incorporate endodontic electronic evidence into clinical and didactic situations
    • Global nature of today’s endodontic environment
    • CODA evidence-based accreditation requirements

    As evidence-based clinical treatment gains popularity, credibility and acceptance, today’s educators and clinicians are faced with the challenges of recognizing, filtering and incorporating available information into their daily activities. This lecture session will include the specifics of locating and utilizing relevant electronic endodontic evidence in the classroom and clinic. Online databases, search engines, discussion forums, Webinars, podcasts, videos, continuing education and global Web sites will also be discussed. A method of complying with the Commission on Dental Accreditation requirements will be presented.
