Annual month-long celebration of saving teeth looks different yet remains meaningful in COVID-19 era
\n<\/em>
\nCHICAGO — The American Association of Endodontists officially began its annual Save Your Tooth Month celebration on May 1, sponsored by EndoVision<\/a>. This year\u2019s awareness month includes some modifications to fit the times.<\/p>\n

Historically, member and public participation in the annual awareness celebration has been abounding \u2013 from creative decor, to donated services, to state proclamations \u2013 there was never a shortage of initiative taken and enthusiasm expressed by members and patients alike.<\/p>\n

Right now, times are different. Still, it’s important for the public to remember that most endodontists’ offices are open for emergency cases.<\/p>\n

\u201cEndodontists can <\/em>still save teeth, they can do it painlessly, and they can be found at findmyendodontist.com<\/a>,\u201d said AAE President Dr. Alan H. Gluskin. \u201cIn turn, we can share their inspirational stories to make Save Your Tooth Month all the more meaningful in the era of COVID-19.\u201d<\/p>\n

To help recognize the important work of endodontists in these times, the Association is encouraging its members to submit those stories online at aae.org\/stories<\/a>. Patients may also wish to share stories of their own by emailing pr@aae.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After all, knowing where to go for tooth pain or infected teeth during a pandemic not only can save your tooth, but your life and the lives of those in your community. Endodontists are trained to treat urgent dental emergencies related to tooth pain and infection and have the necessary resources and equipment for saving your teeth.<\/p>\n

Patients should also know that practicing dentists (all specialties), dental auxiliaries and dental laboratories currently apply infection control procedures as described by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Dental Association.\u00a0These include use of the rubber dam, proper masks and high-evacuation suction<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Association will be sharing stories all month long on its social media channels (Facebook<\/a>, Instagram<\/a>, LinkedIn<\/a> and Twitter<\/a>). Those who wish to participate via social media are encouraged to use the hashtags #thankanendo<\/strong> and #sytm2020<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
