{"id":21804,"date":"2022-09-01T08:30:24","date_gmt":"2022-09-01T13:30:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aae.org\/specialty\/?p=21804"},"modified":"2023-03-01T10:12:51","modified_gmt":"2023-03-01T16:12:51","slug":"aae-updates-case-difficulty-assessment-form","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aae.org\/specialty\/aae-updates-case-difficulty-assessment-form\/","title":{"rendered":"AAE Updates Case Difficulty Assessment Form and App"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\t<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aae.org\/specialty\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/02\/EndoCase.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"394\" height=\"392\" \/>Periodically, our Clinical Resources are reviewed and assessed to determine if updates are needed.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, a task force composed mostly of members of the Public and Professional Relations and Practice Affairs Committees performed such a review and agreed upon a set of changes to the AAE&#8217;s Case Difficulty Assessment Form.<\/p>\n<p>The task force has also reviewed the case assessment app known as &#8220;EndoCase&#8221; and made changes so the app and form are similar. Download the EndoCase App in your Apple App Store or Google Play!<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the Case Difficulty Assessment Form was translated into Spanish. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aae.org\/specialty\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/06\/CaseDifficultyAssessmentForm2021_v1_Spanish.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Launch Spanish-translated version.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aae.org\/specialty\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/CaseDifficultyAssessmentFormFINAL2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-fontcolor=\"2\">updated form is available on the AAE&#8217;s website<\/a>, and a summary of key changes follows below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Consider using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) for assessing moderate and high difficulty cases&#8221; was added in the guidelines for usage\u00a0section.<\/li>\n<li>The term &#8220;Minimal Difficulty&#8221; was analyzed, since the descriptors for minimal do not seem to describe anything out of the ordinary of a routine case. After some discussion on alternate names, &#8220;Low Difficulty&#8221; was chosen, and we thus renamed this particular level of difficulty on the form.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;C-shaped anatomy&#8221; was added as a High Difficulty categorization under Canal Morphology.<\/li>\n<li>Position in the Arch, Tooth Type was added as a criterion with first row definitions.\u00a0Position in the Arch, Inclination was added with second row definitions. Position in the Arch, Rotation was added with third row criteria.<\/li>\n<li>Apex Diameter was added as a separate row using closed apex for minimal, semi-closed apex (1-1.5mm) for moderate, and &gt;1.5mm for high.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;And chamber&#8221; was added after &#8220;canal(s)&#8221; in the Low and High Difficulty columns of Radiographic Appearance of Canal(s).<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;No history of trauma&#8221; was added in the Low Difficulty column of Trauma History.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Other anomalies such as radix ento\/para molaris&#8221; was\u00a0added in High Difficulty under Canal Morphology.<\/li>\n<li>A new\u00a0category was\u00a0added to the row above &#8220;Resorption&#8221;, that details the proximity of the root apices to vital structures such as the IAN or mental foramen.\u00a0Thus, for Low Difficulty, this measurement\u00a0reads as &gt;5mm from apices; for Moderate Difficulty: 3-5mm; and for High Difficulty: &lt;3mm.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;ASA V&#8221; was removed as a treatment consideration under Medical History, High Difficulty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We would also like to recognize the following individuals who worked tirelessly to review and update the form:<\/p>\n<strong>Dr. Patrick Battista<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Dr. Craig Dunlap<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Dr. Mark Desrosiers<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Dr. Tyler Guinn<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Dr. William Ha<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Dr. Andrew Miller<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Dr. Avina Paranjpe<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Dr. Ove Peters<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Dr. Dentonio Worrell<\/strong>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Periodically, our Clinical Resources are reviewed and assessed to determine if updates are needed.
