{"id":4865,"date":"2017-10-25T13:10:56","date_gmt":"2017-10-25T17:10:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aae.org\/specialty\/?p=4865"},"modified":"2017-10-26T15:55:05","modified_gmt":"2017-10-26T19:55:05","slug":"aae-sponsored-session-at-ada-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aae.org\/specialty\/aae-sponsored-session-at-ada-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"AAE-Sponsored Session at ADA 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<br \/>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aae.org\/specialty\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/10\/fathi_200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"225\" \/><strong>Dr. Nava Fathi\u2019s ADA 2017 Session Brings Endodontic Competency and Standards to Life<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As technology and the discipline of endodontics continue to advance, it becomes increasingly important for treatment by all practitioners to meet certain standards.<\/p>\n<p>The AAE recently released a white paper developed to outline and define the requisite skills required by all dentists who perform endodontic diagnosis and treatment.\u00a0<a title=\"The Endodontic Competency White Paper\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aae.org\/specialty\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/10\/EndodonticCompetency_WhitePaper_v2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Endodontic Competency White Paper<\/a>\u00a0is a compelling framework supporting a single standard of care.<\/p>\n<p>Helping to bring that framework to life in a persuasive way, Dr. Nava Fathi presented ADA 2017\u2019s AAE-sponsored CE course titled, \u201cAchieving Endodontic Competency and One Standard of Practice,\u201d on Oct. 19 in Atlanta to dozens of general dentists.<\/p>\n<p>The AAE sponsors an education session at the ADA meeting annually as part of its continued outreach to general dentists to help them understand their limitations, partner with an endodontist and get them involved in treatment planning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aae.org\/specialty\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/10\/fathi_430.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"189\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The beauty of this session was the fact that it welcomed questions from the beginning and the audience felt very comfortable asking any question related to the field of endodontics,\u201d Dr. Fathi said. &#8220;The questions from the audience ranged from cleaning and shaping questions, to handling endodontic mishaps, to pain management. It was a pleasure to be able to answer the audience&#8217;s questions about endodontics, from A to Z.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Fathi\u2019s presentation covered a lot of ground, including the significant changes in the discipline and technology of endodontics that impact a wide range of endodontic procedures and outcomes. She also described how to manage a patient with pathoses of pulpal and\/or periapical origin, how to recognize the potential risk factors that may complicate quality endodontic treatment, and how to determine the degree of difficulty in providing endodontic treatment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSixty-eight percent of root canals are done by you \u2014 general dentists,\u201d she told her audience. \u201cSo how do you know which ones to treat and not to treat? The AAE has a paper on\u00a0<a title=\"case assessment difficulty\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aae.org\/specialty\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/10\/2006casedifficultyassessmentformb_edited2010.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">case assessment difficulty<\/a>.
