Please Note:  The October 2021 Oral Exam is full and registration is now closed.  In an effort to accommodate as many candidates as possible, we extended the administration of this exam by one day, however, demand was high due to limitations we experienced in 2020 and early 2021 due to COVID.  Again, we have tried to create as many opportunities as possible for our candidates, and will continue to do so for the March 2022 Oral Exams.   Please check your inbox in the coming months for news and updates regarding the March 2022 Oral Exams.

As of now, we plan to hold the October 2021 Orals in person and in our usual testing facility in Saint Louis.

Exam Dates for the October 2021 Oral Exam are as follows:

Wednesday, October 20, 2021
Thursday, October 21, 2021
Friday, October 22, 2021
Saturday, October 23, 2021

The staff of the ABE will contact all candidates who have registered for this exam and are eligible to challenge future oral exams via email.  Please be sure to check your emails for information on how to register for the exam.  If you don't see the email in your inbox, please always check your "Spam", "Junk" or "Other" folders.

To help accommodate as many candidates as possible, we are also reviewing the addition of a subsequent virtual oral exam or additional dates to our March 2022 exam.  We will keep everyone apprised via email and on this webpage as decisions are made.

For candidates concerned about when they will be able to take the oral exam, please note that you can switch tracks and submit your Case History Portfolio as the second stage of the three-part ABE board certification process. There will be no penalty or additional fees to make this switch.  If you would like to switch tracks, please email your track change request to our office at

We appreciate your patience with the ever-changing events brought on by the pandemic, and want to acknowledge your dedication and hard work as you move forward with the board certification process.
