Written Examination Information

Examination Date, Application Deadline, Pearson Vue Registration

The ABE Written Exam will be administered at Pearson Vue testing facilities on the following date:

May 21, 2024

Application Deadline

Please Note:  Online applications will be available mid-November of the current year.

Applications must be submitted to the ABE no later than January 9, 2024.  We cannot accept applications after this date.

Pearson Vue Registration
Upon approval of the ABE applications, applicants will receive an autogenerated email with instructions on scheduling their Written Examination directly with Pearson Vue. Instructions will include the date Pearson Vue will open their test center registration.  Test center registration is done on a first-come-first-serve basis and centers rapidly fill to capacity. We recommend scheduling the exam with  Pearson Vue the day their registration opens.

Case History Examination Information

Submission Deadline

May 1

Beginning with the May 2024 exam cycle, portfolios will be evaluated ONE TIME PER YEAR, with the annual submission deadline of midnight Central Standard Time on May 1st.

Portfolios must be uploaded to the Digital Case History website at prior to or on the May 1 submission date to be included in that examination review cycle. Portfolios uploaded after that date will not be reviewed until the next submission date (provided that a Candidate's eligibility to challenge the Case History Exam remains current).  Limitations on the number of portfolios accepted per cycle may apply.  For additional information, please visit the Case History Exam webpage.

Oral Examination Information

Registration for the March 2024 Oral Exams will open on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 10 AM central time.  All eligible candidates with the Oral Exam as their next exam to challenge will receive an email from ABE staff at that time.  Please be sure to check your Spam, Junk, or Other folder if you do not see the email in your Inbox.

Candidates who may be concerned about when they will be able to take the oral exam, please note that you can switch tracks and submit your Case History Portfolio as the second stage of the three-part ABE board certification process. There will be no penalty or additional fees to make this switch.
