Friends of the Foundation are a very important group of volunteer fundraisers. They donate their time to educate their colleagues about the Foundation’s mission and develop support for its activities. Their enthusiasm is reflected in the Foundation’s successful growth and development.
Friends of Foundation come from many different backgrounds Representatives of the group are profiled below. Their passion for the Foundation's mission fuels their interest in fund raising.
Tory Silvestrin, D.D.S.
Dr. Silvestrin is an resident at Loma Linda University and is entering his second year as a Friend of the Foundation. He has been directly impacted by the Foundation's generosity through the Endodontic Educator Fellowship Award, and he feels strongly about giving back to the organization.
"The Foundation has shown its dedication to supporting research endeavors and continuing education as well as my personal experience of the Foundation supporting future endodontic educators. Without the Foundation, myriad endodontic educators may not have maintained their career trajectories or even had the means to start their educational pursuits. Given the generosity of the Foundation, it is an honor to serve as a volunteer to further the efforts of the Foundation and the mission to continue to give back to the specialty of endodontics."
Bethany Douglas, D.M.D.
Dr. Douglas is a private practitioner in Florida and became a friend of the Foundation at the start of the 2014-2015 fundraising campaign. She responded to a volunteer recruitment email and self-nominated.
"Participating as a Friend of the Foundation was a very rewarding experience. I not only learned a great deal more about the Foundation's role in preserving our specialty but I was able to share this with many other endodontists. As a new practitioner, I have not forgotten about the wonderful training I received during residency, and the support the Foundation provided for faculty, research projects and travel to present. I want to make sure that current and future endodontic residents can receive the support they need to be well-trained clinicians."
Alan Gluskin, D.D.S.
Dr. Gluskin serves as the co-chair for the Department of Endodontics at the University of the Pacific. He is one of the Foundation's most enthusiastic volunteers. With a strong will to give back, Dr. Gluskin embodies the spirit of the Friends of the Foundation.
"I look at fundraising in exactly the same way as I look at giving. I believe that being an endodontist has brought enormous consequences to my life in terms of the patients I have helped, relationships I have made and the pure joy of practicing and teaching what I love about the art and science of endodontics. I certainly believe that if we are to keep our specialty strong as both a scientific field of discovery and a healing art, we need to pay it forward by not only giving to the Foundation from our own assets, but also by helping to raise the funding to sustain our specialty and future endodontists through the contacts and personal relationships we have achieved in our own careers."
