Glossary of Endodontic Terms

Welcome to the 2012 edition of the American Association of Endodontists' Glossary of Endodontic Terms. The revised glossary was developed by an AAE Special Committee of full-time educators and approved by the AAE Board of Directors.

This is the eighth edition of the glossary. The AAE is deeply grateful to all the AAE members who contributed to the seven previous editions. Their contributions have ensured that the Glossary reflects the evolving practice of endodontics.

In determining terms to add, delete or revise in this edition, the Committee consulted a number of sources including (but not limited to) Journal of Endodontics articles, Pathways of the Pulp (10th Edition), Stedman’s Medical Dictionary and the National Center for Biotechnology Information’s PubMed.Gov. The Committee also solicited suggestions from the entire AAE membership.

The 2012 edition is a Web-based, downloadable, searchable document. While the Glossary continues to be reviewed in its entirely on a periodic basis, the AAE welcomes suggestions for revisions, additions and deletions.
