AAE and ODC Call on Congress to Prioritize Oral Health Programs

The American Association of Endodontists (AAE) recently joined the Organized Dental Coalition (ODC) in urging Congress to maintain funding for essential oral health programs within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This collective advocacy directly supports policies that impact endodontists, their patients, and the long-term vitality of the specialty.

In response to the President’s proposed budget, which includes reductions to oral health initiatives, the ODC submitted a formal letter to House and Senate appropriators. The letter emphasizes that these cuts could jeopardize prevention efforts, stall clinical research, and restrict access to care—factors that ultimately dictate how and when patients seek endodontic treatment.

For AAE members, these programs are foundational to a robust care environment. Continued investment in the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the CDC’s Division of Oral Health, HRSA, and CMS is vital to driving innovation and supporting the dental workforce. Furthermore, these agencies help expand access to care in underserved areas, where patients often present with more advanced endodontic needs.

A primary focus of the coalition’s message is the intrinsic link between oral health and overall systemic health. Policies that undermine prevention and early intervention often result in more complex cases over time, placing a heavier burden on both providers and the patients they serve.

Additionally, the ODC called for sustained oral health leadership within federal agencies, specifically CMS. By ensuring dental expertise is integrated into federal policy decisions, the AAE and its partners help foster a more stable and predictable environment for providers navigating complex reimbursement structures and federal programs. The AAE’s participation in the ODC underscores its commitment to ensuring the voice of endodontics is heard during the appropriations process. Through these efforts, the Association remains focused on protecting the specialty, supporting its members’ practices, and advancing policies that elevate patient care.
