Rico D. Short, D.M.D.
Dr. Short graduated from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry in 1999, and completed his endodontic residency at Nova Southeastern University in 2002. He has performed externships in apical microsurgery at Miami Children’s Hospital and Universidad Autonoma de Tlaxcala in Tlaxcala, Mexico. Dr. Short has published research in the Journal of Endodontics and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics in April 2009. Dr. Short has been in several media publications discussing endodontic treatment. He currently serves as an expert endodontic consultant to the Georgia Board of Dentistry and is an associate clinical professor at the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. Dr. Short has experience giving lectures about various endodontic topics and dispelling the myths of root canal treatment. It is his goal to inform dentists as well as the public on endodontic treatment and the importance of maintaining proper oral health through natural dentition.

At conclusion, participants should be able to:
- Define endodontic retreatment.
- Define the standard of care.
- Evaluate the necessity of retreatment versus apical surgery or extraction/implant.
- Describe retreatment techniques, strategies and success.
This course will discuss the value of endodontic retreatment for patients and how the endodontist fits in the treatment plan. In addition, the course will cover dental ethics when deciding to retreat versus extraction and implant. Finally, success rates and strategies of retreatment will be discussed.
