Peter E. Murray, B.D.Sc., Ph.D.
Dr. Murray is a stem cell and tissue regeneration researcher, and an associate professor in the department of endodontics at Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and abstracts. He is a member of the AAE Regenerative Endodontics Committee and a reviewer for many dental journals including the Journal of Endodontics. He is an associate editor of the journals Stem Cells and Development and American Journal of Dentistry.
He is currently funded by two large grants awarded by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, and holds research funding from several commercial sources in addition to the AAE Foundation. The total amount of funding held by Dr. Murray’s lab is $1.7 million. He has been featured in newspaper articles, radio interviews and participated in workshops sponsored by members of Congress with the aim of stimulating more funding for stem cell research. His goal is to create new regenerative dental and medical therapies that can be used by practitioners in their offices.

Regenerative Endodontics: Lessons Learned and Future Directions

The goal of regenerative endodontics is to replace diseased, missing or traumatized tissues, with healthy tissues to revitalize teeth. Several techniques will allow regenerative endodontics to become a reality. These are root-canal revascularization, stem cell therapy and tissue-engineering. The problems of introducing reliable regenerative endodontic therapies are substantial, but the potential benefits to patients and the profession are equally ground-breaking. This presentation provides an explanation of the lessons learned and future directions.
