AAE Board of Directors Approves Updates to Three Position Statements

At their fall meeting, the AAE Board of Directors reviewed three position statements that included updates that clarify longstanding AAE policy on:

• Informed consent guidelines: The updated document updates potential risks in any treatment plan or procedure.
• Tooth saving tips: The updated document provides tips to maintain optimal oral health.
• Root canal safety: The updated document includes mention of a documentary as an example of misinformation about endodontic therapies.

The updates were proposed after careful review of the existing documents by members of the AAE’s Practice Affairs Committee. The committee is charged, in part, with updating the endodontic community on issues of direct relevance to the specialty. The committee routinely reviews existing position statements as well, to ensure the information remains relevant and can be beneficial when educating consumers, or as an adjunct in feedback on the decision making process used by policymakers.
