2019: A Busy, Productive Year Ahead

With the dawn of a new year, please join me in hoping for a happy and healthy 2019.

We have a major project taking form in January with the consumer engagement initiative. The tagline is “Worth Saving”, with a focus on of saving your natural tooth as the best possible option over extraction. Endodontists are, of course, the specialists best positioned to save your tooth. The initiative will target a selective audience using a variety of different media in ways that will increase awareness and impact. Root Canal Awareness Week is morphing into Save Your Tooth Month.

With a more targeted demographic of the general public and with the involvement of our members throughout this process, we have the potential to move the needle in a significant direction toward the public’s understanding of just who an endodontist is.

Speaking of moving, the AAE Headquarters is set to move into our new space in Chicago in mid-February, and construction is currently on track. In this edition of the Communiqué, we’re sharing first-look photos from the new site! After more than 30 years in the same location, we are heading to Two Prudential Center (180 N. Stetson), about a mile south of our present East Chicago Avenue location. The new office has several advantages, including interesting opportunities to modernize our spaces and improved accessibility to transportation for commuters.

We will continue to rely on the ADA for partnership on wider dental issues and with advocacy, membership benefits and data support. Our new headquarters is being custom-built for our needs. An open concept will yield a productive, flow-enabling, and collaborative workspace for staff, and will allow you as members to benefit from an updated and modern in-office meeting space.

We are connected via a pedway connecting numerous area establishments so you can access a variety of top Chicago destinations conveniently.

Speaking of exploration, the AAE Annual Meeting continues to be the most comprehensive endodontic education summit, vendor exhibition and networking opportunity in the world. AAE19 is shaping up nicely with traditional offerings as well as some new twists. Montreal promises to be an exciting, entertaining setting for social events, culinary delights and sightseeing opportunities. If you have not had a chance to view the video featuring Drs. Alan S. Law, Raphael R. Garofalo and yours truly, please go to the website and take a look. It is a great preview of what the city has to offer. Remember to check that your passport is up-to-date.

The speakers list for AAE19 is firmed up with international experts in all aspects of endodontics and many related fields. Try to catch it all, but if you cannot make it to a talk, count on Endo on Demand to catch up with any missed lectures. We are trying some new concepts in continuing education, including a speed session where the latest research concepts are presented in a rapid-fire venue. There will be something for everyone.

Make 2019 a great year. Dream big, work hard, be nice and enjoy great success. We are lucky we’re endodontists.
