2023 Interim Board Meeting Recap

The AAE Board of Directors held its Interim Meeting on October 6-7, 2023, in conjunction with the American Dental Association’s SmileCon in Orlando, Florida.

The Board dedicated the first day of its meeting to reviewing and updating its strategic plan, which focuses prominently on public awareness, advocacy, and support of members. In preparation for its strategic planning discussions, the Board reviewed environmental scanning data including key drivers of change and critical issues relevant to the specialty. Discussion focused heavily on the key driver and critical issue which rated as most important in scanning: shifting practice models and technological advancements. The Board continues to work on adjustments to the plan to enhance the organization’s impact and will publish an update to the membership once work is completed.

During its meeting, the Board approved updates to its position statements on Informed Consent, Tooth Saving Tips, and Root Canal Safety.

The results of the June 30, 2023 audit were reviewed by the Board. The AAE’s independent auditor reported that the AAE received a clean audit with no deficiencies identified, indicating that the AAE’s financial reports are in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

AAE’s Board utilized SmileCon as an opportunity to connect with key influencers in dentistry. The AAE’s annual reception drew attendees from the ADA, dental specialties, state delegations, and industry.

While in Orlando the AAE actively participated in every available avenue to advocate in the best interest of the specialty and its patients. The Board hosted a luncheon meeting for AAE members who serve as Delegates and Alternates within the ADA House of Delegates. The meeting was chaired by AAE District II Director, Dr. Mark B. Desrosiers of Glastonbury, Connecticut. This annual event provides a unique opportunity for delegates across ADA’s 17 districts to meet with the specific intention of reviewing House resolutions impacting the specialty of endodontics and to be informed of the AAE’s position on resolutions. AAE provided testimony on key issues at Reference Committee Hearings. Specifically, the AAE’s testimony on a resolution calling for requiring the use of DICOM standards in products or systems which exchange images in dentistry successfully resulted in the resolution being referred back to committee for needed additional study. The AAE extends its thanks to Drs. Mo Fayed and Bruno Azevedo for their assistance in evaluating this resolution.

The AAE is appreciative of its 22 members who served as Delegates and Alternates to the 2023 ADA House:
