Dr. Renato M. Silva Named Chair of Endodontics Department

AAE member Renato M. Silva, D.D.S., M.S., Ph.D., was selected to serve as chair of the Department of Endodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, effective July 1. Dr. Silva will succeed AAE member Jeffrey Hoover, D.M.D., who has been serving as interim chair since 2015.

Dr. Silva is an associate professor in the Department of Endodontics and also serves as director of clinical simulation. He earned his D.D.S. and Certificate in Endodontics from the University Gama Filho in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He completed a fellowship in endodontic surgery at the University of Sao Paulo, and subsequently earned a master’s degree and Ph.D. in oral sciences. Dr. Silva joined the faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 2011 and received a Certificate in Endodontics from the school in 2015.

A member of the Journal of Endodontics Scientific Advisory Board and former member of the AAE Research and Scientific Affairs Committee, Dr. Silva has published more than 75 peer-reviewed articles in the fields of endodontics and human genetics. In the spring of 2015, Dr. Silva’s research grant proposal to the Foundation for Endodontics scored highest among all faculty proposals received.
