President’s Message: A Season of Insight and Support

It’s that time of year….School is back in session. The leaves are changing color, the crisp Autumn air is beginning to set in. So now, all of our thoughts turn to: Football? Maybe – but that would depend on how well your team is performing. The holidays? Maybe later. It’s just too early. But the one big thing on every Endodontist’s mind is, of course, Insight Track! Our annual Fall meeting is extremely popular and provides a smaller, more intimate CE experience compared to our larger annual meeting in the Spring. This year we will be meeting in beautiful Puerto Rico at the Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve just outside of San Juan. This venue will provide an idyllic tropical getaway to prepare you for the winter months ahead. But more importantly, our educational program will inspire you and undoubtedly reinforce your enthusiasm for our specialty of Endodontics. This year’s topic is Trauma – a timely subject, coming on the heels of our recently published update of our Trauma Guidelines.

During our three days in paradise, you will learn from a panel of recognized authorities on the various aspects of trauma and the sequelae that accompany impact injuries. Some of our speakers are either current or former Board members of the International Association of Dental Traumatology, so there will definitely be a global perspective presented to enrich your knowledge base on this subject. The specific topics include Treatment Recommendations for the various types of injuries, Trauma related resorption, Regenerative Treatment for Immature Teeth, Decoronation, Restoration Following Trauma, and the role of the Endodontist as a secondary or even tertiary provider following an injury. With all of our educational offerings, you will have the opportunity to earn up to 10.75 CE credit hours.

While we have planned an enlightening educational experience for all attendees, the entire time will not be spent in lectures. The schedule is planned to encompass a half day each day, giving you ample time to enjoy our location and provide a chance to experience some of what Puerto Rico has to offer. There will be an opportunity for golf on Saturday afternoon and you can register for that in advance on the Insight Track website. Other options include touring the rain forest, ocean kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, or simply lounging by the pool or on the beach.

Have I tempted you sufficiently? Great! To register for this meeting, you can simply log in to aae.org and click on the Insight Track banner. Alternately, you can go to www.insighttrack2026.eventscribe.net and get signed up for what promises to be a great experience. We owe our gratitude to Dr. Katie Kickertz and the Education Affairs Committee for planning this outstanding program. I hope to see you in Puerto Rico.

On an unrelated topic, I feel it is important to recognize that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Too many of our sister Endodontists have had to face this devastating disease, and others have had to stand by friends and family members as they struggled to survive. If you know of someone dealing with breast cancer – or any other type of cancer for that matter, reach out with a message of support, give them a hug if you are able, and let them know they have a friend to stand by them. As a cancer survivor myself, I can assure you that the support of friends and family are critical to one’s recovery and survival. We have a support group on AAE Connection for those either facing cancer, or those that have survived and can share their experiences. Warriors and Survivors provides a forum for those members to ask questions, seek advice, vent their anger, or simply cry on a virtual shoulder.

I will leave you with a sentiment that applies to all our members: Just remember, we are stronger together.
